Service, explained

The Yamaha 100-hour service

The one service that keeps every other bill smaller. Here's what's actually in it, why the calendar counts even when the hours don't, and how to get it booked in about two minutes.

What's in it

  • Engine and gearcase oil — changed, not topped up. Gear oil is also how we catch a weeping prop-shaft seal before it becomes a lower unit.
  • Fuel filters and fuel/water separators — replaced. Ethanol-blend fuel and a humid coast make water in fuel the most common no-start we see.
  • Lubrication of the fittings — steering, tilt tube, linkages.
  • Inspection of the key components — belts, hoses, clamps, anodes, prop and hub.
  • Yamaha diagnostics — the engine's own computer read by the factory tool, which is where a misfire or an overheat event shows itself before you'd ever feel it.

Hours or calendar — whichever comes first

Yamaha's schedule is every 100 hours or twelve months. Almost nobody on this coast runs a hundred hours in a season, so for most owners it's the calendar that arrives first — and it genuinely counts. Oil ages sitting still, and fuel degrades over a winter whether the engine ran or not. An engine that "barely got used" is not an engine that can skip a year.

What it costs

We quote it the same day you ask — the number depends on your engine and what the inspection turns up, and the service writer confirms it with you before any work begins. No surprises on the invoice is the whole point of the way we book work.
