Yamaha Marine Service Pro Elite · 2023 · 2024 · 2025

Our customers do the grading

Yamaha Service Pro Elite is not something a dealer can talk its way into. The score that decides it comes from surveys of our own customers, run by Yamaha, which we do not see first and cannot choose the recipients of. Seventy-one shops in the country held it.

Yamaha Marine Service Pro Elite

The short answer

Marine Service Pro Elite is Yamaha's grading of a dealer's service department, and the largest single thing in it is the Customer Satisfaction Index — what the dealer's own customers say, asked by Yamaha rather than by the dealer. Alongside that it grades whether the service manager, the advisors at the counter and the technicians on the bench have completed Yamaha's training, whether the shop runs current diagnostic software, and whether every job is recorded against the engine itself. There is no sales requirement anywhere in it. When Yamaha last published the roll, 71 dealers in the entire United States held it.

The score

CSI is the part we cannot manage

Every other claim on this website is ours. This one is a number somebody else calculates, from people we do not choose, and it decides where we stand.

Yamaha surveys our customers directly. We do not pick who is asked. We do not see the answers before Yamaha does. We cannot pull one we do not like. And the program grades two separate things: the score, and the read rate — the share of customers who actually respond. The read rate is there so that a dealer cannot quietly survey the three people who were delighted and ignore the rest.

Which is why we would rather you knew about it. A shop that is graded on how it treats people behaves differently from one that is graded on how many engines it moves — and a customer who has been let down has somewhere to say so that actually costs us something.

  • Surveyed by Yamaha, not by us
  • We do not choose who is asked, or see it first
  • Both the score and the response rate are graded
  • Re-scored against every program year, not awarded once

Yamaha's own published roll, April 2023, for the 2022 program year — their announcement is here if you want to check us. RT 113 qualified for Service PRO in 2022, the program's first year, and has held Pro Elite since 2023.

The part that matters

What it means when you bring the boat in

A badge is worth nothing unless it shows up in how you are treated. Here is where this one does.

The fault gets named, not guessed

A current Yamaha Diagnostic System is a program requirement, and a certified technician to read it. Your engine logs what has happened to it — an over-temp, a knock event, a sensor drifting out of range — and that log is the difference between a repair and a sequence of parts you pay for one at a time.

See the maintenance schedule

The counter is trained, not just the bench

The Service Manager and Service Advisor tracks have to be completed in full. That is the person who takes your call, writes the job up and rings you back — and most of what goes wrong between a shop and a customer goes wrong there rather than on the bench.

Your history belongs to the engine

Maintenance Tracking participation is required, so every service is recorded against your engine's serial number rather than in our filing cabinet. It supports a warranty claim, it survives us, and it is worth real money the day you sell the boat.

You get told, not chased

The satisfaction score is not about whether the repair worked. It is about whether anybody rang you. Every job here is tracked from check-in to pick-up and you hear from us when something changes — because the alternative shows up in a number we do not control.

A complaint has somewhere to go

If we get it wrong, the survey Yamaha sends you is not a suggestion box — it is the thing that decides our standing with the manufacturer. That is a better guarantee than any promise we could write on this page.

It has to be re-earned

Standing is scored against each program year, so the tier reflects how the shop has been running recently rather than how it ran when somebody hung a plaque. Ours reads 2023, 2024 and 2025 for that reason.

What else is graded

Eleven requirements, none of them about sales

Almost every manufacturer award a dealership can win is really a sales award wearing a service badge. This one is not — which is the reason it is worth putting on a website.

Customer satisfaction

The Customer Satisfaction Index score and the read rate alongside it. The largest single component, and the one entirely outside the dealer's hands.

Training, all the way through

The Service Manager and Service Advisor tracks completed in full, technician training including electrical systems, and Yamaha Marine University business modules.

Diagnostic capability

A current version of the Yamaha Diagnostic System on site. A modern outboard will tell you what is wrong with it, if you have the software and the training to ask.

Maintenance Tracking

Active participation, not optional. Every service recorded against the engine's serial number so the history follows the engine rather than the dealership.

Yamalube

Yamaha specifies the oil and the program checks that it is what actually goes in. Dull, until the day somebody discovers it was not being met.

Not one of them is volume

No engine target, no boat target, no floor plan commitment. A dealer who sold nothing all year could hold Pro Elite; a dealer who sold hundreds badly could not.

And separately

Pro Elite is the shop. Master Technician is a person.

These get confused, and they are not the same thing.

Yamaha Master Technician is an individual certification — the top of Yamaha's technician training ladder, held by a person and carried with them. Marine Service Pro Elite is held by the dealership and grades the whole operation: the satisfaction results, the training completed across the service staff, the diagnostic capability, the record keeping.

A shop can employ a Master Technician and not hold Pro Elite. A shop can hold Pro Elite without one. We have both, plus four more Yamaha certified technicians beside him.

Common questions

Straight answers

What is a CSI score, and who fills it in?

Customer Satisfaction Index. Yamaha surveys our customers directly — we do not choose who is asked, do not see the answers first and cannot pull one we do not like. Both the score and the read rate, meaning how many people actually respond, are graded.

How many Yamaha dealers hold Pro Elite?

Seventy-one, in the whole United States, the last time Yamaha published the roll — April 2023, for the 2022 program year. A hundred and thirty-five dealers nationally had been recognized at any Service PRO level at all.

Is it a sales award?

No. There is no volume requirement in it anywhere. Every one of the eleven requirements is about the service department: satisfaction results, training completion, diagnostic capability and record keeping.

Do I have to have bought the engine from you?

No. The certification is the dealership's and applies to whatever comes through the door. A good share of our service work is on boats bought elsewhere — and those customers get surveyed the same as anybody else.

Does this affect my Yamaha warranty?

Warranty terms are Yamaha's and follow the engine. What the program affects is how the claim goes: current diagnostics to establish the fault, and a service history recorded against the engine's serial number, which is what a claim asks for.

What if you get it wrong?

Ring us first — that is what the number at the top of this page is for, and most things are fixable the same week. But if it is not, the survey is real and it counts. We would rather you used it than told the dock.
